Project Gateway
Project Gateway is a joint venture with Gaffney Board of Public Works and Cherokee County. This wastewater infrastructure improvement project is focused on providing sewer service to areas of Gaffney and Blacksburg along interstate I-85, between exits 100 and 106, and down Highway 5. Currently, there is no significant sewer service along I-85 between exits 100 and 106. Based on a study in 2020, Cherokee County identified that significant expansion along the I-85 in the Eastern part of the county is not possible without available sewer access. Eastern Cherokee County is a prime location for economic development because of its large availability of land, low taxes, and available labor. The county's primary hindrance to development is sanitary sewer availability. Project Gateway will provide the solution by opening up those areas of Cherokee County for future growth and opportunity.
